Parenting an adopted child with emotional scars from abuse or neglect can be very demanding. Extraordinary amounts of love, nurturing and commitment are sometimes needed before the child can heal. As issues of past mistreatment arise, sometimes even years after the adoption, undue strains can be placed on parent-child and/or family relationships. When this occurs, counseling and other support services are often needed to help the family remain intact. Post adoption services can be as important as the adoption itself in helping children succeed.

All families who adopt a child/ren who were in the custody of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) through the state of Texas are eligible for post adoption services.

Spaulding for Children contracts with the state to offer the following services to families. Spaulding for Children offers the following services:

Casework and service planning

• Parent education and support groups
• Counseling
• Respite care
• Day treatment
• Residential treatment services
• Information and referral
• 24-hour crisis intervention
