Volunteer Opportunities
Marketing and public relations professionals are invited to join the Marketing and Communications Committee. The committee meets monthly, and members volunteer for specific projects from the agency’s communications wish list.
Detail-oriented volunteers are invited to spend a few hours each week at Spaulding for Children helping process mailings, file and maintain the mailing lists.
Event volunteers are invited to join one or more of Spaulding for Children’s event planning committees to plan fundraisers and family recruitment functions.
Parents who have adopted through Spaulding for Children are invited to help with site visits by potential funders. Adult adoptees are also invited to volunteer for this important job.
Board of Directors if you are ready to make an annual leadership gift, share your many contacts, play an active role in the fiscal oversight of Spaulding for Children, attend board meetings, serve on a committee and support special events, the Board of Directors nominating committee would love to hear from you.
Volunteer Camp Buddies play with kids at our Saturday Fun Club and Friday Night Out. Staff provide the discipline and schedule activities. Volunteers have fun with the kids while their parents enjoy a little "grown up time." Training is provided.

If you are interested in helping in any of the above volunteer capacities, please contact the director of development, marketing and communication at 713.681.6991, ext. 127.

2004 Volunteers of the Month
Thank you to each of our Volunteers of the Month who have done so much for Spaulding for Children and the families we serve.

January

Shokoh Ghobadi, a student at University of Houston, was more than willing to help out wherever we needed it. From being a fill-in receptionist to decorating and preparing for our Snow Shoveling Party, everyone at Spaulding was sad to see Shokoh go back to school this Spring. Best of luck, Shokoh!

February

Gala Committee. This year’s Gala Committee included many members of Spaulding for Children’s Board of Directors as well as numerous other volunteers. Their hard work is celebrated in this newsletter. Our hats are off to all of you!

March

Margot Perkins, a student at St. Agnes Academy, was a familiar face around the office. Not only did Margot help with everyday office projects, she also assisted our family coordinator Staci Prince by attending fairs and representing Spaulding for Children at our booth for United Way functions. Thank you, Margot, for deciding to make a difference in your community at such an early age.

April

Attorney Pat Jaggers has provided invaluable pro bono assistance on cases and training for foster parents. He presents at Next Steps meetings. Pat also buys employees lunch during quarterly staff meetings and helps the agency financially.

May

Mustang Engineering volunteers entertained the children of our foster parents in April at the annual Foster Parent Appreciation Dinner. Foster parents relaxed and enjoyed a well-deserved dinner, while Mustang employees pulled out all the stops to make sure the children felt honored as well.

June

Katie Murray helped the Development Department immensely during her summer internship while on break from Boston University. Katie helped with everything from grant writing to making the exclusive Teddy Bear Awards for lucky recipients, to media relations. It was an honor to work with her, and we’ve already told her there will be a place for her here next summer.
