Create
a Blizzard
of Giving!
Make a $20 contribution by check or gift card!
The Blizzard
of Giving provides support for the children
in our care. The gift cards are used to purchase Holiday and birthday
gifts for foster children, to provide adoption day gifts for children
and to help post-adoptive families in crisis.
Spaulding for Children must raise at least $6,000 each fall to support
our foster children through the Holidays. Gift certificates are
easy for you to buy and mail, easy for us to store and help us ensure
equity among all of the children we are here to serve. Remember
us next time you are at Wal-Mart, Target, Toys R Us, Best Buy or
any other similar store.
If you are interested in coordinating a drive to create a Blizzard
of Giving
in your office, civic association or group, please contact Linda
Ensign, Development Coordinator, at 713-681-6991 ext. 162! We
would love to work with you on a campaign and well help you kick
off the event with a speaker who will visit your organization and
motivate your group by sharing stories of the children in our care.

Gifts
of Stock Going Cheap!
One
of the cheapest ways to give to charity is to donate appreciated
stock. Spaulding for Children receives 100 percent of the gift and
you get a tax deduction based on the value of the gift on the day
it was given. The gift only costs you what you originally paid for
the stock and you avoid paying any capital gains tax! Everybody
wins and you help children in need! If you would like to make a
gift to Spaulding for Children, contact Linda
Ensign, Director of Development, Marketing and Communications
at 713.681.6991, ext. 127.!
Annual
Community Appeal
Through its Board
of Directors, Spaulding has gradually diversified its funding
sources and increased community awareness of the agency. Fundraising
activities include an annual board campaign, direct mail appeals
and special events. Spaulding for Children receives funding from
individuals, corporations, foundations, religious institutions and
social groups and professional associations.
Endowment
Fund
In
1989, David (Scotty) Holland, a Spaulding for Children Advisory
Board member, and his wife, Jacque, established the David and Jacque
Holland Endowment Fund. Each year, a limited number of college
scholarships are awarded to eligible recipients. In
1993, the Fondren Foundation created the Fondren Endowment, a fund
that helps Spaulding for Children provide critical services to families
who adopt special needs abused and neglected children.
United
Way of the Texas Gulf Coast
Since 1979, Spaulding for Children has enjoyed
the direct and indirect advantages of being a member of the United
Way of the Texas Gulf Coast. Not only does the agency receive approximately
7 percent of its budget from the United Way, but it also enjoys
many advantages that an agency of Spaulding's size would not otherwise
have. Access to the Management Assistant Program (MAP), Project
Blueprint and exposure through United Way campaigns and its Directory
of Agencies provides Spaulding for Children with much needed community
exposure and access to volunteers.
Calling
All Sponsors
If
your company would like to become an "Official Supplier"
and offer Spaulding for Children a pro-bono service or in-kind gift
which could help us preserve more funds for our families, we would
love to hear from you. Ideas include: printing, catering meetings
and receptions, underwriting business travel, donating hotel rooms
and car rentals (particularly in Houston and across Texas), and
donating gift certificates to be presented to each child we place,
to help the family celebrate their adoption.
If
you are interested in helping in any of the above capacities, please
contact Linda
Ensign, Administrative Assistant,Development at 713.681.6991,
ext. 128.
