Dear
Spaulding for Children Stakeholder,
It is a pleasure to provide this Annual Report to you detailing
the accomplishments of Spaulding for Children during 2000.
As you will read, it was a year filled with tremendous success.
Thanks to all of you, we found more permanent, loving homes
for abused and neglected children than ever before in our
24-year history. 116 children found their new forever
families as a result of our work, not only a new record
for Spaulding for Children but a new all-time high for any
private agency in the state of Texas.
We
also served more children and families in our Foster Care
Program, including 12 children who were adopted by their foster
families, ensuring that their transition has the best chance
for long-term success. And our Post Adoption Program served
hundreds of adoptive children and their parents, fulfilling
our promise to be there for them when issues related to past
abuse and neglect arise.
Our
strong competency in collaborative efforts and effective mediation
skills was rewarded with a new three-year federal grant to
improve the legal process for children and families. The Families
First mediation project will shorten the time frame for children
in the court system while building a more humane process where
all parties come together to determine the best outcome for
the child.
As
you can see, we have begun this new century with tremendous
success and an even more promising future. While we have much
to celebrate, we also have much work still to finish. The
silent voices of almost 3,000 children in our state who are
waiting for their permanent home are calling upon each of
us to fulfill our mission and help give them a much deserved
second chance at childhood. With your support, we will continue
to do exactly that
