Foster Care

Foster Care
Houston

At Spaulding for Children, we take pride in the services and support that we provide our parents and children. We feel that foster parenting is one of the most challenging and, yet, most rewarding experiences one can encounter in life. Come join our family and see for yourself!

The children we serve are in the custody of the State of Texas because of abuse or neglect. The ultimate outcome of their respective cases could be adoption, reuniting with their birth families or remaining in foster care until they turn 18. The following are the three types of family settings we can provide:
  • Temporary Safe-Haven Foster Families care for children who have recently been removed from their home due to abuse or neglect. The State of Texas works toward the goal of reuniting the child with his or her birth family.
  • Foster-to-Adopt Families care for children who have the potential to be adopted by their foster parents when their birth parents' rights have been terminated.
Here are steps to becoming a Spaulding for Children foster parent:
  1. Complete the Pre-Screening Application to see if you meet the basic requirements.
  2. Attend an orientation meeting.
  3. Complete a detailed application with references and very specific information about the home in which foster children would be living in.
  4. Complete PRIDE class.
  5. Complete a Home Study with Spaulding for Children's clinical staff.
Once you have children placed with you, you will receive support from the Spaulding for Children staff in the form of telephone and home visits and access to on-going training.
